Bare feet running January 1, 2009 It would be unheard of in this new age of food puritanism, but years ago my grandmother fixed country ham and then cooked the eggs in the grease of that ham. She fixed fried chicken and larded biscuits and both she and my grandfather lived to almost 90! There's a lesson here for all the gripers about the use of butter or cream.
Ina is perhaps the best food teacher after Mario Batali. Over the years she has developed into a cottage industry without sacrificing quality, originality or inspiration. This contained lots of "dishes you can make at home." The technique is not demanding and the results are surprisingly good. Warning - this book contains a good amount of entertaining ideas, table decorations, etc that will probably appeal only to the ladies. But the recipes are universally of interest. For once, the title of the book is accurate: Almost any of these could be made by a reasonably knowledgable home cook, particularly the good veggies.
Great pictures, comments, ideas. My Grade - A
Fantastic December 28, 2008 We've had this book for about a year now and still go back to it when we want something that we know will definately work! Love Ina Garten's books!

I requested a used copy in good condition, but I was sent a new copy! Thank You very much. The book is excellent, of course and I am very grateful for your good service and high standards.
Lovely Ina November 9, 2008 Typical and wonderful Ina fare. Great simple, "gourmet" recipes. Ina integrates life in The Hamptons with her various vegetable, seafood, pasta, dessert, etc. dishes. Her excellent taste is reflected in her tips on table decorating. She offers various tips on entertaining in a simple, but elegant style. I will be purchasing more of her cookbooks.
Fabulous book October 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ina Garten is a wonderful cook and cookbook author. Her recipes are simple, yet elegant, and most are quite easy to prepare and don't require a lot of ingredients. She covers the range from appetizers to desserts, and offers menu suggestions to help when you're in a rut.
I own several of Garten's cookbooks and enjoy them all. She has an easy style and casual way of communication that makes anyone feel like they are capable of recreating the dishes in her books. Garten is passionate about her ingredients, and offers tips on various brands she feels are the best, to help your finished dish turn out as best as it can.
This book is filled with beautiful photographs, which add to its appeal. Most of us want to see what the recipe we'll be preparing will look like when it's done.
I highly recommend this book for anyone from the novice to experienced cook.
