| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Matcha tea. Yugen, "infinite way," thin grade matcha tea is grown in the Uji, Kyoto region. This premium matcha is used in combination with matcha bowl and whisk. When tasting this matcha, we found an excellent balance of astringency and sweetness. Matcha tea is a Japanese powdered green tea. When drinking it, whole tealeaves are consumed, not just the steep off tealeaves, as with other teas. High-grade matcha (thick and thin) are made in limited amounts in Japan. Matcha is cultivated by covering tea plants with bamboo mats several weeks prior to harvest, increasing the chlorophyll content. The harvested leaves are dried and stone-ground into matcha powder. Thin and thick matcha are made from the highest quality leaves, which are de-spined and stone-ground into emerald green powder. Ingredient grade is made from lower qualtiy tealeaves that have not be de-spined, yielding a powder less green in color and more astringent in taste.

Wow! May 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My only regret is that I did not purchase the right kind of whisk to prepare the tea. (Tried to use a fork instead...still got lumps.) Even so, the tea is tasty, aromatic, stimulating (without being too stimulating), and a beautiful green color.
